“Make Space, Get Ready”
Make Space. Get Ready.
By: Joe Nichols and Richard Walter
It’s hard to receive anything when you’re full of everything.
I don’t mean just your calendar, though that’s often packed too tightly.
I mean the mind.
The expectations.
The noise.
The grasping.
We live in a world that rewards fullness.
Full inboxes. Full resumes. Full fridges. Full schedules.
But presence doesn’t arrive through fullness.
It arrives through space.
Recently, I made a choice:
To put Through the Doldrums of Midlife on pause.
Not because the story has ended, but because another one is asking to be heard more clearly right now.
IAMday is calling.
And to answer fully, I needed room.
Not just time, but clarity. Breath. Inner permission to not do it all at once.
So this week, I’m clearing a little corner.
Not to be more productive.
But to become more available.
A clean desk.
A blank page.
An open window.
A moment where I let go, just long enough to remember:
Something new is always trying to come through.
But it rarely forces its way in.
It waits for room.
For welcome.
So I ask myself.
Where am I cluttered?
Where can I loosen my grip?
Maybe it’s a drawer.
Maybe it’s a plan.
Maybe it’s a thought I’ve rehearsed too many times.
Whatever it is, I’m gently putting it down.
Because I want to be ready.
Not in the hurried, anxious way.
But in the quiet, trusting way.
Cleared space is not emptiness.
It’s invitation.
If you’re feeling this too—this longing to breathe again—join us.
IAMday.org is a global pause happening on September 24, 2025.
A day to clear the noise, come back to yourself, and feel real again.
And if you know someone who’s been running on empty…
Please share this with them.
A little space can change everything.
What are you ready to release?
And what would it feel like to make space—not just to clean, but to open?
Tell me in the comments.
Or simply whisper it to the blank page.
Presence hears.
